The celebration culminates with the immersion of the idols in water, signifying the goddess's return to her celestial abode.

Glimpses of Durga Puja

Durga Puja celebrations span ten days, beginning with Mahalaya, which marks the goddess's descent to Earth. The main festivities start from Mahashashthi (the sixth day) with the unveiling of the Durga idol in beautifully decorated pandals. On Mahasaptami, rituals like the bathing of a banana plant, symbolizing the goddess, take place. Mahaashtami, the most significant day, features the special "Anjali" offering, prayers, and cultural performances. Mahanavami is filled with sacred ceremonies and communal feasting. Finally, Vijayadashami marks the immersion of the goddess’s idol, symbolizing her return to the heavens, accompanied by joyous processions and rituals like Sindur Khela.
