Experiencing the Beauty of Bengali Culture, Traditions and Festivities with the theme "Social Justice"
Witnessing the long-lasting togetherness over these 64 years, this year we are celebrating 65th year of Durga Puja, where we all together pray Maa Durga with our heart and soul. This year’s theme of Durga Puja is “Social Justice”, emphasizing equality and inclusivity. We all are building the future society here in IIT Roorkee and only these kinds of occasions help us stay connected to our traditions, values and roots. We are celebrating this auspicious festival, to support one another, and to find joy in shared experiences. Hence, this year’s festivities will feature intricately decorated Mandap that tell stories of resilience and struggle against discrimination. Workshops and performances will engage attendees in meaningful dialogues about empowerment and community action. Food stalls will showcase diverse cuisines, fostering cultural exchange and solidarity. During 9th to 13th October 2024, the devotees are gathering to honor Goddess Durga. This year the festival will not only celebrate her victory over evil but also inspire a collective commitment to creating a more just and compassionate society, making it a transformative experience for all. So, with the blessings of Maa Durga, Durga Puja Committee 2024 welcomes you all to participate with your families and friends at Saraswati Mandir premises in IIT Roorkee.

Glimpses of Durga Puja
The festival features a series of significant days, starting with Mahashashthi, when the celebrations officially begin with grand processions and rituals. Mahasaptami and Mahaashtami are marked by intense devotion, with special pujas and offerings, culminating in Mahanavami, where fervent prayers are made for blessings. The final day, Vijayadashami, includes colorful traditions like Sindur Khela, where married women smear each other with vermilion, symbolizing love and companionship. The immersion of Durga's idol signifies her return to her celestial home. The rituals involve elaborate prayers, offerings, and cultural performances, drawing communities together in a spirit of joy and devotion.
